Whatever your skill-set or interest, with the FEDDs, you’ll find a way to make a difference - and have fun doing it!
FEDDs Working Committees
To expand our reach and impact, the FEDDs are launching Working Committees, to each focus on specific efforts:
Programming & Events Committee
VDR/Voter Registration Committee
Media & Communication Committee
Members & Partners Committee
This document has details and descriptions of the committees (click HERE).
If you have interest in hearing more or joining a committee, please contact Joey Cade for more info. Your input will help shape these committees and the important, fun work we do together.
Voter Registration
From large events with national voter registration organizations, to individuals and small group registrations in our precincts, we’re registering new voters every day. If you aren’t a certified volunteer deputy registrar (or VDR) yet, we will help you get it done. And, if you aren’t a VDR yet but want to volunteer at VDR events, you are welcome!! Check out our VDR .
Education
The FEDDS offer a speaker series concentrating on issues affecting our community, area, and state. In addition to subject matter expert speakers, we hold regular training programs to educate members how to use tools to organize.
The programs are open to the public to attend in-person or virtually with Zoom. You don’t have to be a member to attend any FEDDs event. All are welcome!
Partner Precincts
We build unity and strength precinct by precinct. We each organize within our own precinct, but we also coordinate with our neighboring precincts in geographic areas, and we support precinct organizers around the county who are launching partner groups using our strategy, training, and tools. What do FEDDs volunteer organizers do??
Organize get-togethers to recruit volunteers
Implement voter registration events at local markets, schools, and vaccine sites
Use Google tools such as Drive, docs, slides and spreadsheets to seamlessly work together and share resources
Use Texas VAN (Voter Activation Network), to empower activists with the tools they need to Turn Texas Blue
Block Walking
The FEDDs knock on left-leaning doors in precincts to make voters aware of Democratic candidates and voting information. In 2020, the pandemic changed all of our plans to block walk, and we believe this affected our results. So, we’re already building block walking teams for 2022.
So, if you like to walk and are comfortable going to doors with a partner (or would like training with an experienced partner), we need you. Join us!
‘Lit Sticking’
The FEDDs’ most popular Get Out the Vote event is the lit stick! The “lit stick” is a giant sticky note that we put on the doors of left-leaning voters. It lists dates, times, and locations of early voting as well as information about election day. No Knocking, Just Sticking.
We give you a list of doors on which to place the lit stick. And, because you aren’t knocking on doors, you keep walking and “sticking,” so it’s great exercise, too!
We hold HUGE lit sticking events before early voting starts. In 2020, over 200,000 lit sticks were put on doors across Dallas county and we’re going to do MORE every cycle! Join the Lit Sticking team!
Postcard Parties
Do you enjoy making a difference, while enjoying drinks, food, and conversation, plus making new friends that are fellow liberals? Then, postcard parties are right for you!
We host regular postcard parties, both large member-wide and small precinct-level events. We write postcards to invite members to our events. We send postcards to potential new members. And, we run postcard campaigns to hold our elected officials accountable. From Thank You messages for those we helped elect when they have successes, especially when they bravely challenge their own party because of the wishes of their constituents; to issues-based campaigns both to Dem officials and those on the other side of the aisle.
We supply the postcards, pens, mailing labels, and stamps. Members write a short message on each card. We ask for donations to cover the cost of postcards and stamps.
Postcard parties are a great way to meet other FEDDs members and will be resuming soon!
“Flippin’ Funky”
The FEDDs like to make everything as fun as possible, while also “getting shit done!” To make Dems in our area more visible, we started the bumper magnet tradition of “flippin funky.” When you come across another car with the FEDDs bumper magnet, you flip it upside down, take a photo of it and share it with the group on one of our social media channels. It’s silly fun, and it has become effective in showing us how many more Dems there are in the Dallas area than we realized. We now see FEDDs bumper magnets all across Texas!!
Map The Vote
MapTheVote aggregates publicly-available data on locations that are likely to have unregistered, eligible voters. MapTheVote does this without exposing any personal information. Its interactive "Google-style" map display is a guide for those who wish to register voters in their communities and more easily connect with potential voters. All you need is a browser such as Safari, Edge, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Google Chrome.
