Welp, it's happened again, but no matter what, we will stick to our values. Even when we feel despair, doom, and gloom, we will stay true to who we are as Democrats. It's important to grieve. We are humans, and we need to feel all the feelings. It is also important to never give up or surrender, but come back stronger... Together. Like they say: It's not whether you fall, but whether you get back up that's important.
Merry & Bright - Please join us for our 8th Annual FEDDs Holiday Party, and our 2nd Annual FEDDies Awards!
Tuesday, Dec 3 from 6:30-8:30pm at Times Ten TOO (6324 Prospect Ave, 75214)
Words cannot properly express how much we love you, FEDDs. As always, you put in the work, and it showed on a local level. We passed Prop R to decriminalize cannabis, which will protect citizens from unjust arrest in Dallas, and we kept one of the three horrible Propositions from passing. We can be proud that Dallas County voted overwhelmingly for Kamala Harris, and about two-to-one for Colin Allred.
And, we made history electing our friend, Congresswoman-elect Julie Johnson as the very first openly LGBTQ+ Congress member from The South! It’s a proud moment for Texas, and the FEDDs played a part in this win. We can feel good about this one, friends! Representative Johnson is going to make us proud fighting extremists in D.C., just as she has for years in Austin.
We also want to share our sincere gratitude to the Dallas County Democratic Party. Chair Coleman, Vice Chair Flores, Political Director Brown, and their large professional team ran an impressive campaign across Dallas County for over a year, with 2 offices open nearly 24/7 for the past few months. Truly, their efforts have been Herculean, and we look forward to continuing to support their young, diverse leadership in the years to come.
We appreciate the fruitful organizing partnerships shared with many clubs and orgs, including Stonewall, Young Dems, RAD, LH Blue, LHWR Dems, SAAVETX, Moms Demand Action, MTTP, NTX Dems, all the great staffers of our Dem candidates, and many others. (apologies if your org was left out…we’re tired…love & appreciate everyone’s efforts)
Speaking of partners, we stand with Stonewall Dems of Dallas in their statement against *newly ex-* Texas Dem Chairman Hinojosa. (Hinojosa resigned this AM.) It was (long past) time for that change. We are committed to always stand with Stonewall Dems. Our work standing with - and volunteering in support of - our sisters & brothers in marginalized communities is only beginning...
And now, the hardest part…..
As a group primarily made up of White Women, we agree with Mayor Brandon Scott, that this country does not deserve Black Women. We see you, Black Women, and we appreciate how much of your strength, goodness, and power you have put into our country, not just the past few months, but since the beginning. We are committed to loving you and following your leadership, even if you are understandably done with us for now. We will step forward and take more of the burden, while you take time for the rest and healing you deserve.
We believe Vice President Harris and her team did everything right. We are proud of her for working twice as hard, all her life, to reach the pinnacle, and for the warmth and respect she showed all of America, even those fighting against her. We are disgusted by the disrespect, racism, sexism and misogyny that held Kamala back, and specifically the White Women who voted against the positive future she offered. Voters who support White Supremacy & Christian Nationalism, and the many millions of Americans who didn’t vote, have put so many in danger…
Like everyone else, we are hurting, exhausted, and full of rage. We all need time to heal. If you can, take a minute to heal with Win with Black Women.
Once you’re able, join us in re-directing our rage towards our important work ahead and recommit ourselves to building community. It’s time to steel ourselves for the struggles ahead. We will be joining mutual aid and response teams to support marginalized communities. Inspire yourself with the wisdom of Stacey Abrams. As she points out, we are going to need to focus very locally.
After our Stronger Together Election Hangover Meetup, we will be quieter than usual, as we rest up for what’s ahead. On Tuesday, Dec 3rd, we will have our annual Holiday Party and the 2nd Annual FEDDies Awards to celebrate and honor many superstars who shined so bright this year. (save the date, so you don’t miss it!)
We cannot thank you all enough for all the hard work put into this election, FEDDs. You knocked on doors, phone banked, lit sticked, had important conversations with the people in your life... and you voted. Thank you doesn't quite cut it, but... thank you. We love you.
** To help us make plans for 2025 and beyond, when our organizing and community building will be MORE important than ever, please fill out this volunteer interest form. Thank you, FEDDs! We’re not asking anyone to do everything, but we are asking EVERYONE to DO SOMETHING. **
To end with a giggle, this is our vibe today!! lol
